I love treasure hunting on the beach for shells and rock pools; my work is reminiscent of these collections, often with tide lines revealing the clay body or the sparkly addition of glass. Broken or damaged pots become more precious by adding lustre.
The process of making is as important as the end result and I enjoy the different stages including rearranging my finished collections in frames, shelves and trays. By making ceramic wall art from tiny vessels, I have changed both the scale and context of the pot creating something new and playful.
I enjoy throwing functional ware, hand building bowls and making more abstract work; this playful variation keeps me energised and I see no distinction between domestic and sculptural work.
